A Farewell Session at Home: Celebrating Baby #4

Some sessions go beyond posed portraits—they become living, breathing memories. This one was especially meaningful, marking the last time this family will ever be photographed at their beloved home. With baby number four on the way, they’re preparing to move and make room for their growing family of six.

For years, I’ve asked this mama to let me document her during pregnancy, and for years she was too shy to say yes. This time, with a new season beginning, I shared my vision for a session that was simple, timeless, and most importantly—real. She trusted me, and the results are everything I hoped for. These maternity photos aren’t about perfection; they’re about honesty, love, and life as it really feels in this moment.

That’s something I’ve heard often about my work: “Your photos look real.” It’s the highest compliment I could ever receive. As a Baton Rouge maternity and family photographer, my goal has always been to create images that feel natural and true—photographs that look like you, in your real life, with all its love, laughter, and quiet strength.

Photographing her here, on the front porch of the house where they’ve raised their babies, was the perfect way to honor this chapter. These walls have held first steps, giggles, and milestones. These steps have carried them through both chaos and joy. And now, they’ll forever hold the memory of this in-between season—just before everything shifts once again.

This shoot wasn’t about elaborate styling or dramatic backdrops. It was about authenticity: the beauty of motherhood, the strength of a woman preparing to welcome another life, and the emotion of saying goodbye to a home that has held so many memories.

As they prepare to welcome baby #4 and move into a new home, these portraits will serve as a bridge—linking the memories of the past with the promise of the future. And that, to me, is the true art of photography: creating images that feel as real as the life you’re living.
