Inside Our Vintage-Inspired Home Studio

An intimate, eclectic space with stories in every corner.

It all began with wallpaper.

When our friend Lauren, owner and lead installer at Perla Paperhanging, offered to help us create an accent wall, we didn’t realize she was about to spark a complete transformation. My husband—the real visionary in our house—imagined something rich and Victorian in style. He landed on a dramatic, textured damask pattern, and just like that, the tone for the room was set.

From there, the space took on a life of its own.

We pulled in my grandmother’s velvet chaise lounge, full of nostalgia and southern charm. A retro avocado green steelcase chair from the '70s made its way into the room, and a whiskey barrel we’d picked up from a local wine shop found new purpose as a bar and conversation piece.

Bookshelves filled with our favorite reads (everything from philosophy to photography) were relocated from downstairs, now grounding the room with warmth and personal history. Above them hangs a pair of antlers—my husband’s from his 8th birthday—mounted in a sleek metal frame, a small but meaningful nod to his childhood and creative ingenuity.

The space is dotted with global finds and family treasures: two hand-carved busts of native African women my father brought back from Angola while working there in the ‘80s, an original Don Henson oil painting from the 1930s, a charcoal sketch by a Baton Rouge artist, and our beloved 100-year-old rolltop desk, worn just enough to show its age in all the right ways.

A cowhide rug and a live palm plant were the final touches—grounding, organic, and unexpectedly calming. By late afternoon, the sunlight spills across the floor, giving the room a golden hue that’s just as photogenic as it is peaceful.

This space now serves many purposes:

✦ A quiet retreat for reading, writing, and meditation.

✦ A creative escape filled with light and inspiration.

✦ And for me? A portrait studio designed for those drawn to vintage vibes and storied spaces.

Whether you're here for a timeless headshot, an intimate portrait session, or simply curious to step inside something a little different—this room is ready to welcome you.

And yes, our two dogs love it too. Especially on rainy days.
