Sometimes the best sessions are the ones you never planned.
This shoot with baby Leland was supposed to be something entirely different—an off-camera flash hands-on training and business coaching session with my photography mentor, Angela. As a Baton Rouge photographer, I believe wholeheartedly in continuing education. Whether it's refining my lighting skills, learning new techniques, or strengthening my business mindset, I know that growth doesn’t happen without intention.
Angela brought along her sweet baby boy that day, and what started as a technical coaching session quickly turned into an impromptu baby photography shoot I’ll never forget.
Leland was the perfect little model. At that age where babies are just starting to push up, engage with the camera, and show off their bubbly personalities, he lit up the room. As long as I was giving him the attention he clearly knew he deserved, he was all smiles and charm. I couldn’t help but keep shooting.
What made this session extra special was the full-circle moment: I was there to learn and invest in myself as a photographer, and yet I ended up doing what I love most—capturing the pure joy of a little one just being themselves. And gifting those images back to Angela, who’s poured so much into my growth? The sweetest cherry on top.
This session reminded me that learning and creativity often go hand in hand—and when you follow the moment, beautiful things happen.
